The Butter Nook is a small home bakery in Meridian, Idaho. This page explains what information we collect through our website, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: we only collect what we need to fill your order or answer you, and we never sell it.

What we collect

• When you order: your name, email, phone number and what you ordered. You enter these on Square's secure checkout page. We never see or store your card number.
• When you send a special request: the name, email, phone number, date, occasion, quantity and message you type into the form.
• When you sign up for our emails: your email address, your first name if you give it, and the date you signed up.
• When you visit the site: our web host keeps basic technical logs, like your IP address and browser type, for security and to keep the site running.

How we use it

• To fill your order, email you the pickup details and contact you about it.
• To answer special requests and event inquiries.
• To send our weekly menu and occasional offers, only if you signed up. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
• To keep records the law requires, such as sales and production records.

We don't sell, rent or trade your information, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Who helps us

We use a few trusted services to run the shop. They handle your information only to provide their service to us:

• Square processes payments and keeps order records. Square's own privacy policy covers its checkout page.
• Google stores special requests and email signups in our private Google account, and delivers request emails to us.
• Cloudflare hosts the website and protects it from attacks.
• If we start sending menu emails through an email service, it will hold your email address only to send our emails.

We may also share information if the law requires it, for example in a food safety investigation.

Cookies and tracking

Our site doesn't use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. Our web host may use a strictly necessary security cookie, and Square's checkout page may use its own cookies to process your payment. Because we don't track you across sites, we don't change anything in response to "Do Not Track" browser signals.

How long we keep it

• Orders: for at least two years, as Idaho law requires for sales records, and as long as needed for tax records.
• Special requests: up to two years, then deleted.
• Email signups: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe from our emails at any time with the link in any email, or by writing to us.
• Ask us what information we have about you, or ask us to correct or delete it. We'll honor the request unless we're required to keep a record, such as a past sale.

Keeping it safe

We use secure, well-known services, two-step sign-in on our accounts, and an encrypted connection on every page. No system is perfect, but if a breach ever affected your information, we would tell you as Idaho law requires.

Children

Our site is meant for adults placing orders. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
